Implications of the EU Referendum Result and UK Negotiating Position - Amendment
- Submitted by: Jackson Carlaw, Eastwood, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
- Date lodged: Tuesday, 13 September 2016
- Motion reference: S5M-01412.2
- Current status: Taken in the Chamber on Wednesday, 14 September 2016
As an amendment to motion S5M-01412 in the name of Michael Russell (Implications of the EU Referendum Result and UK Negotiating Position), leave out from "the importance” to end and insert “the result of the EU referendum on 23 June 2016, in which 17.4 million voters across the UK decided that the UK should leave the EU and understands the commitment of the UK Government to respect and implement that decision; welcomes the fact that the Prime Minister has repeatedly said that she expects the Scottish Government to be fully engaged and involved in the process of negotiating the UK’s withdrawal from the EU; notes the ‘very clear conclusion’ recorded in the report of the Parliament’s European and External Relations Committee, which was published on 12 September 2016, that ‘a distinctive Scottish approach to maintaining our relationships in Europe’ may be possible ‘as long as that approach had been agreed with the UK Government first’; understands that this conclusion underscores the importance of the Scottish Government co-operating with the UK Government, and urges the Scottish Government to work in good faith with the UK Government in its forthcoming negotiations with the EU."
