Education, Children and Young People Committee Future business
The Committee considers its work programme regularly to maintain a rolling programme of business. The Committee's main business over coming months will include:
Education (Scotland) Bill: The Committee will undertake scrutiny of the Bill at Stage 2.
Tertiary Education and Training (Funding and Governance) (Scotland) Bill: The Committee issued a call for written evidence in February 2025, which closes on 11 April. The Committee will hold oral evidence sessions as part of its Stage 1 scrutiny in May 2025.
Schools (Outdoor Education) (Scotland) Bill: The Bill passed Stage 1 on 27 March 2025, and requires a Financial Resolution to be lodged by the Scottish Government in order for Stage 2 proceedings to take place. The Committee will schedule scrutiny of the Bill at Stage 2, if a Financial Resolution is lodged.
Restraint and Seclusion in Schools (Scotland) Bill: The Committee has been designated as the lead Committee for the Bill at Stage 1. The Committee will consider its approach to the Bill and issue a call for views in due course.

Widening access to higher education inquiry
An inquiry by the Education, Children and Young People Committee into the progress made towards the Commission on Widening Access’s 2030 targets to widen access to higher education for young people in Scotland’s least well-off communities.
To consider and report on matters falling within the responsibility of the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills and matters relating to the Historical Abuse Inquiry, redress and languages falling within the responsibility of the Deputy First Minister.
