Chamber and committees

As an amendment to motion S7M-01022 in the name of Shirley-Anne Somerville (Eradicating Child Poverty, the Scottish Government’s Defining Mission), insert at end "; calls for decisive and committed action to disrupt financial inequality between women and men, and recognises the need for targeted action to confront women’s poverty as a vital part of realising its mission to eradicate child poverty; supports the progressive increase to the Scottish Child Payment to £40 per week for all children, not just those under one year old, with the goal of increasing this to £55 per week by the end of the current Parliamentary session, and believes that an increase to the Scottish Child Payment for young parents must be made to compensate for the UK Government’s Young Parent Penalty."

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the deep cultural, historical and environmental significance of the Queen’s Park Glasshouse to the Glasgow Southside constituency and the wider city; notes what it considers to be the significant public support for protecting this cultural heritage asset, evidenced by a Glasgow City Council petition signed by more than 13,000 people; understands that the glasshouse supports a range of crucial community priorities and that maintaining public access is important for heritage preservation, community cohesion, urban greenspace, accessible public toilets and dedicated opportunities for children’s play; believes that the safeguarding and sustainable revitalisation of the glasshouse aligns directly with key Scottish Government strategic ambitions, including those under the National *Planning* Framework 4, the Climate Change Plan and the Health and Social Care Strategy; notes the view that additional investment is required to bring the glasshouse back to its full potential, and further notes calls for the Scottish Government to meet with representatives of the Save Queen's Park Glasshouse campaign and Glasgow City Council to discuss all opportunities for the future of the glasshouse.

That the Parliament understands that a campaign has launched to afford the Scottish morning roll protection and recognition as a UNESCO cultural status food; believes the status is well-deserved for a unique food group that is treasured across the country and enjoyed by many each day; understands the morning roll has been around for over 300 years, longer than Paris has had the baguette, believes that Glasgow Southside, often referred to as the "brunch capital of Scotland", has numerous institutions that offer this delicacy, such as Cafe Strange Brew, the Green Goose, Cafe Salmagundi and Fulton’s Cafe, and commends the work of the Scottish food historian, Peter Gilchrist, who is embarking on this cause.

That the Parliament believes that Scotland and the UK are experiencing extreme weather events that are made more frequent and severe due to climate change; affirms the climate science, which demonstrates that existing global oil and gas reserves already far exceed what can be safely burned in a world committed to limiting warming to 1.5°C; believes that this makes developing the Rosebank oil and gas field incompatible with climate goals; notes that it is estimated that Rosebank’s emissions will total 254 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, which equates to six times Scotland’s annual climate emissions; understands that the majority of Rosebank’s oil will be used for export and not contributing to energy security; agrees with the head of the International Energy Agency that new fields such as Rosebank “would not change much for the UK’s energy security, nor would they change the price of oil and gas”; considers that, as the climate imperative intensifies, geopolitical instability highlights that continued reliance on volatile fossil fuels leaves households and businesses exposed to global price shocks, and affirms the vital importance of delivering a fair and equitable transition for Scotland's workers in the energy sector.

That the Parliament welcomes the formal proposals to strengthen the twinning partnership between the cities of Glasgow and Boston; commends the leadership of Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren, and Boston’s Mayor, Michelle Wu, in championing this civic alliance; celebrates what it sees as the exemplary conduct, vibrant culture and warmth of the Scotland football fans, affectionately known as the Tartan Army, during their travels throughout the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup; notes with pride the overwhelmingly positive response and hospitality extended to Scottish supporters by the people of Boston; believes that what it considers to be the legendary camaraderie, charity fundraising and musical skill of the Tartan Army have served as a powerful showcase of Scotland on the international stage, and wishes both cities every success in fostering a lasting legacy of friendship, mutual prosperity and shared heritage following the tournament.

As an amendment to motion S7M-00356 in the name of Shirley-Anne Somerville (Strengthening Scotland’s Partnership with the Third Sector), insert at end “; believes that the third sector would benefit from a transition to multi-year, simplified, flexible funding models that considers inflationary increases and covers full operating costs as the default; calls on the UK Government to reimburse Scottish third sector organisations for the cost of increased employer NICs, which are currently estimated at £75 million per year; recognises that those working in the third sector, such as organisations addressing violence against women and girls or supporting migrants, carers and disabled people, are also experiencing multiple and overlapping inequalities, secondary trauma and harm, and that they would benefit from an approach to third sector funding that includes the Real Living Wage and fair work principles, and further recognises that some third sector organisations, particularly those working with marginalised communities such as trans people and migrants, are experiencing threats to the safety of their staff, volunteers and service users."

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow Clyde College on being named Further Educational Institution of the Year at the 2026 Herald Higher Education Awards, which were sponsored by The Open University in Scotland; recognises that this prestigious accolade is a reflection of the college’s excellence in learning and teaching, equality, wellbeing, partnership working and community engagement; notes the judges’ praise for its culture of innovation, collaboration and inclusion; acknowledges what it sees as the transformative impact of its work on students, employers and local communities, including across the Glasgow Southside constituency, through the Langside campus, and commends everyone involved for their continued commitment to creating opportunities and delivering positive outcomes across Scotland.

That the Parliament congratulates Katherine Cory and welcomes her to the role of Bicycle Mayor for Glasgow for the Bicycle Citizens Network; understands that Katherine established the Shawlands Bike Bus in 2021, and it has since grown significantly and gained worldwide attention for providing a safe, active and highly visible way for children to commute to school; celebrates Katherine’s work as coordinator at Women on Wheels, where she aims to remove social and environmental barriers for women and families, and welcomes her approach to ensuring that cycling is safe and fun for residents in Glasgow Southside and across the city.

That the Parliament acknowledges the social and cultural significance of marking the fifth anniversary of the Pollokshields dawn raid by Home Office immigration enforcement and subsequent peaceful protest on Kenmure Street, Glasgow, on 13 May 2021, the day that people of the Glasgow Southside constituency rose up to stand in solidarity with members of their community; welcomes the critically acclaimed film, Everybody to Kenmure Street, from the Glasgow-based Chilean filmmaker Felipe Bustos Sierra and is a "love letter" to the community, showcasing its spirit, sense of urgency and humility on the day, and applauds Bowling Green Together for hosting the first Festival of Hope, which was a two-week-long programme celebrating the victory and included know your rights workshops, banner making, screen-printing, a free community meal, music and an opportunity to deepen ties in the Southside community.
