Parliament dissolved ahead of election

The Scottish Parliament is now dissolved ahead of the election on Thursday 7 May 2026.

During dissolution, there are no MSPs and no parliamentary business can take place.

About the Scottish Parliament

Conveners Group

Each committee in the Parliament has a convener. The Conveners Group is made up of all the conveners. It is chaired by the Presiding Officer or a Deputy Presiding Officer.

The Conveners Group meets regularly to:

  • discuss issues affecting committees
  • communicate between the committees and other parts of the Parliament, like the Parliamentary Bureau and SPCB
  • look at how committees are working 
  • make recommendations to the Parliamentary Bureau about committee business in the Chamber
  • approve committee meetings taking place outside of Edinburgh
  • approve committee travel outside the UK
