PE1864/NNNN - Increase the ability of communities to influence planning decisions for onshore windfarms
My husband and myself no longer live in Scotland. We spent an awful lot of our time trawling through no end of literature pertaining to the applications for wind farms in South Ayrshire. We watched as Hadyard Hill was erected – at the time, the largest wind farm in the UK – but were daunted by the onslaught of more and more applications for massive wind farms all around us. Many people had their lives turned upside down with noise problems and while some were bought out, others were left bereft by the problems they endured daily. The planning system is very complicated regarding the wind industry and while they have experts and lawyers employed on a permanent basis, the average home owner has none of these things at their disposal. We watched community after community be destroyed by these things and the ironic thing is that once you move away from them to an area where you know wind farms won’t ever exist, the problem goes away and never gets thought about again. It’s easy for those living in towns to say they think they are a good idea. It’s different for those having to put up with the disruption every day.
Since moving away, we have been made aware of more wind farms and extensions to existing wind farms around our former property. We thank God we moved when we did. The Assel Valley area and the hills of South Ayrshire have been trashed and so many lives made a misery with no hope of fighting the wishes of the Scottish Government or the developers and it’s a disgrace.
My husband had to give up a good business when we decided to move. He offered a great service to our local community and is missed but we felt we no longer wanted to live with the uncertainty of having turbines ever closer to our home.
