In 2015 a turbine was built 300m from my property, which was in breach of the Local Development Plan (policy RE4). It was also built in the wrong location as well as after the Planning Permission had expired.
The noise from the turbine was unbearable. 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It was relentless.
It was built far too close to residential properties, ruining our amenity.
Eventually the Local Authority took action and declared the turbine unauthorised. However, they then allowed the developer to apply for Retrospective Planning Permission which was approved with conditions in August 2020.
Had this application been submitted in England it would have been refused. No Parish Council or the community would have allowed this.
After extensive investigations by the Environmental Health Department they issued a Noise Abatement Order against the developer.
We had no choice but to engage an expert Noise Consultant. He showed up many inaccuracies in applicants surveys and subsequent application for planning permission, so much so that the background noise survey had to be repeated under his supervision as the developer’s data was deemed not to be credible.
The public need protection from these developers who, in our view, only care about money, not the welfare of the residents who live next to the turbines.
We could not have afforded the Consultants fees on our own but fortunately our neighbours contributed to his fees. This is several thousand pounds we will never recover.
We had the full support of our Community Council and local residents but after five years from my initial complaint it was eventually given Retrospective Planning Permission with conditions. We do not know if these conditions can or will be met by the developer.
For the reasons given above we support this petition as under English planning legislation this turbine would never have been consented and our lives and financial situation would not have been negatively affected.
