As of December 2022, a total of 1,852 pharmacists were qualified prescribers or currently undertaking an independent prescribing qualification, 474 of whom were working in a community pharmacy.

The latest drug deaths statistics reported a 21 per cent decrease in 2022. I welcome that reduction, which is the highest on record, but I am also quite clear that those numbers remain far too high and that every life lost is an absolute tragedy.

(S6O-02009) The national eye centre at the Golden Jubilee hospital ran 18 months of weekend cataract sessions, over and above standard provision, to December last year, supporting the treatment of 1,251 patients in 2022. The facility is on target to deliver more than 11,000 cataract operations through core activity in the year to March 2023.
