Parliament dissolved ahead of election

The Scottish Parliament is now dissolved ahead of the election on Thursday 7 May 2026.

During dissolution, there are no MSPs and no parliamentary business can take place.

Employing MSP family members

In accordance with paragraph 3.7 of the Reimbursement of Members’ Expenses Scheme the SPCB is required to make available for public inspection a register detailing the employment by an MSP of a close family member of another MSP.

A ‘close family member’ for the purposes of the Scheme means:

  1. a spouse, civil partner or cohabiting partner of the MSP; or

  2. a parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece of the MSP or of a person mentioned in sub-paragraph (a);
