Waste (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) (No 2) Regulations 2018
Welcome to the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee’s third meeting of 2019. I remind everyone to switch off their mobile phones—I will make sure that mine is off—as they might affect the broadcasting system.
Agenda item 1 is to consider a request from the Scottish Government to the committee to consent to the United Kingdom Government legislating by using the powers under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, in relation to the Waste (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) (No 2) Regulations 2018. Do members have any comments on the statutory instrument?
I have a very brief comment. I want to highlight the importance of waste directives and their significance in driving forward issues in Scotland. The producer responsibility section of the regulations is particularly important. I am pleased that the Scottish Government supports the regulations being approved.
As there are no other comments from members, is the committee content for the Scottish Government to give its consent for UK ministers to lay the regulations in the UK Parliament?
Members indicated agreement.
I confirm that the committee will write to the Scottish Government on that basis. Is the committee content to delegate authority to me to sign off the letter to the Scottish Government?
Members indicated agreement.
At its next meeting on 29 January, the committee will continue its consideration of a draft stage 1 report on the Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets) (Scotland) Bill. The committee will also consider secondary legislation relating to the environment, food and rural affairs.
As previously agreed, the committee will now move into private session, and I request that the public gallery be vacated.
