The next item on the agenda concerns fingerprint evidence. Committee members have received background correspondence from the clerks and I am happy to receive comment on that. Obviously, the committee will want to consider what further action, if any, it should take in relation to the correspondence.
The responses were very full. At this stage, it would serve no purpose for the committee to take specific evidence in this area, given that Her Majesty's inspectorate of constabulary for Scotland is due to undertake an inspection in 2004 in which it will investigate the issues raised by Alex Neil. We should leave the matter at that. If Alex Neil or the committee wants to return to it, we should do so after the inspection has taken place.
Are members content to proceed on the basis that Jackie Baillie suggests?
Members indicated agreement.
As a courtesy, we will write to Alex Neil to confirm the decision that the committee has made.
