Supported by: Sandesh Gulhane*, Alexander Stewart*, Brian Whittle*, Craig Hoy*, Jamie Greene*, Murdo Fraser*, Bill Kidd*, Jeremy Balfour*, Miles Briggs*, Pam Duncan-Glancy*, Pam Gosal*, Tess White*, Sharon Dowey*, Sue Webber*, Russell Findlay*, Tim Eagle*, Paul Sweeney* *S6M-14216 Annie Wells: Accounting Trainees Take Up Roles with Glasgow Business — That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow accountancy firm, Armstrong Watson, recognised as one of the UK’s top apprenticeship employers, on welcoming more than 28 new trainees; understands that Armstrong Watson takes on a number of apprentices every year to work towards their Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) qualifications, with 21 embarking on the AAT and four starting the ATT in 2024; further understands that this number is up from 17 across the two courses in 2023; believes that it comes after the business was recognised by the UK Department for Education for having one of the best and most successful apprenticeship programmes in the country, ranking at number 37 in the national league, which, it understands, is up from 46 in 2023 and 64 in 2022; understands that the new students, who start in September 2024 at regional offices, will work in the Accounting and Tax Compliance teams and will receive hands-on experience alongside classroom study as they work towards their qualifications; further understands that they then have the opportunity to progress on to the ACA Graduate Scheme to become a chartered accountant, and notes that a total of 37 graduates joined the firm or progress onto the ACA programme.
