I realise that our work programme makes it difficult for us to do that. Another committee may be examining the subject and issues may have arisen before I rejoined the committee, about which I am unaware.
In large urban centres, folk have opportunities to modify their behaviour. They may continue to live in a close community, but they may work somewhere else and need not continue to go to the same pub.
That will impact on their decision to come into farming. It may be too late for us. We are having to reconsider our position in the industry—we have a young family—and may be forced to sell up.

A copy of the draft report has been circulated, but members are asked to note that as our reporting year runs from 7 May 2003 to 6 May 2004, the report may require to be updated to reflect any additional work in progress up to and including our meeting on 5 May 2004.
Are they asked to make an input on what they consider would be an appropriate bid for budget? Others may wish to contribute, but my view is that, within the individual offices and areas, there should be discussion about the level of staffing that may be required and what is appropriate.
I expect that some of those who make representations may want not to criticise, but to have explained some of the assumptions that are built into the report.
