Good afternoon. I open this meeting of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee and ask members to ensure that their mobile phones and pagers are switched off. I also invite members to indicate if they are present as committee substitutes.

I am here on behalf of the Labour party as a substitute for Karen Gillon.

I welcome Karen Whitefield to another meeting of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee.

I am here as a substitute for Brian Monteith.

I welcome Murdo Fraser to his first meeting of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee. We have a ritual of welcoming people every time we meet.
