Supported by: Rona Mackay*, David Stewart*, Kenneth Gibson*, Stewart Stevenson*, Tavish Scott*, Ruth Maguire*, Graeme Dey*, David Torrance*, Andy Wightman*, Liam Kerr* *S5M-10880 Liam McArthur: The Best from the West at the Scottish Community Drama Association Festival in Orkney That the Parliament congratulates all those who took part in the — Orkney division of the Scottish Community Drama Association s festival, which concluded on 2 ’ March 2018; understands that the festival ran for four nights and played to packed audiences throughout, highlighting the strength of, and support for, community drama in Orkney at present; thanks all those who helped to deliver a successful festival and recognises the contribution that community drama makes in building self-confidence, team working and a range of other skills in people of all ages; congratulates in particular Stromness Drama Club on its spectacular success, winning the Challenge Cup for first place overall with its production of Confessional, which was written by David Wei, with the club s youth team being awarded the AC Hunter Cup for third place ’ overall, and The Orcadian Youth Trophy for its production of Stressed, which was written by Alan Haehnel; acknowledges the personal triumph of Graham Garson, who was involved in directing both drama club productions; notes that he also won the the Ernie Donaldson Trophy for highest marks in direction and the George Scott Cup for best stage setting; further notes that, to complete a fabulous festival for teams from the West, Birsay Drama Group (Greenay) won the Firth and St Magnus Parish trophies for second place overall and the best performance by a parish team with its production of Cheshire Cats Act III by Gail Young; acknowledges the praise of the adjudicator, Jan Palmer Sayer, for Hoy and Walls Entertainment Group s production of At Home with Socrates, ’ by Lindsay Hall, which won the Isles Cup; wishes Stromness, Birsay and Palace Players (Earls) well at the divisional finals in Dunkeld later in March and also Stromness Drama Group (youth), which will represent Orkney at the Divisional Youth Finals in Birnam around the same time, and hopes to see a Scottish, if not an Orkney, team triumph at the British Final in due course, which will take place on home soil at the Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling on 6-7 July.
