Their submission also stated that, in order to tackle the issue in the long term, properly co-ordinated release planning across public sector and universal services is needed and that having equitable access to services such as their New Routes Mentoring scheme “would go a long way to realising that the problem of Friday releases is not actually a problem if the resources are in place to properly co-ordinate, plan and implement a prisoner’s release irrespective of the day of the week.”
