We also have big contingents who are in full-time study and who have caring responsibilities. “Economic inactivity” is a catch-all term, so getting underneath that and understanding how we encourage those who can work into work is important.
That is great and it is creating a hive of activity around it. However, to meet the scale of need, we all need to get real and get with what people are pledging to invest.
We are seeking—again, I will not use the term “to tackle”, because, as I have said, so-called economic inactivity covers a range of activity—to interact with some of the challenges that Mr Lockhart has set out.
My home still does not have superfast broadband, despite numerous attempts to get it. Thousands of other homes across the country do not have it either, and many of them are not going to get it until 2028.
That is what the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government set out in the documents accompanying the budget. I would like to get some clarity as to what, specifically, was spent on active travel last year.
