One of the aims it sets out under the theme of strengthening culture focusses on working in partnership to increase diversity in the sector, sharing new approaches and codes of practice that ensure skills development and board membership have diversity at their core.
There are minimum requirements for a company to become a member, codes of conduct by which companies must operate and disciplinary processes if companies are found to be in breach of the codes.
Earlier, we mentioned the prudential code, which binds council borrowing. Basically, it says that councils should not borrow more than they can afford to repay.
It says: “when the contract was agreed, the programme understood that the DWP owned a key piece of coding that would be required. This was not the case and required the programme to negotiate purchase of the coding from a third party”.
