I do not disagree with that—perhaps we are debating not the value of improved home safety but how best to deliver it. Our contention is that that is best done by addressing local priorities that are set at the behest of local agencies.
That is a deterrent to trade and tourism in the area.In an informal discussion, someone said that there are difficulties with mainland legislation—made with the best will in the world for all our best interests—when it is applied to some of these areas.
As politicians, we tend to look for examples of best practice, wherever they may be. Are there no examples of best practice in Scotland, or are there areas that may be used as examples of how things can be done better?
