Some months ago, I confirmed that we would extend that to March 2022, because we will formulate a budget in the spring of next year, which will cover the financial year to the end of 2022.
However, the Government is not in favour of long, exclusive lists in primary legislation, because they can date quickly and fail to draw in relevant matters.
Many times, parents respond well initially and then, unfortunately, it goes the other way at a later date. Anyone I have ever known in social work would want to give the parents every opportunity to ensure that they get things right.
I am very clear that part 1 is not limited to post-conviction disposals, so it could cover pre-conviction disposals, such as bail conditions, at a later date. I oppose amendments 68 to 70 for the same reason.
However, I add the caveat that I put in my submission, which is that many victims of domestic abuse start by saying, “I am going to face him in court”, but as the court date gets closer that becomes just too much.
