What should we do? • Develop long term plans that are not focussed on the quick wins. • If householder participation is to increase, services must be easy and convenient. • Invest in and research emerging and new technologies – particularly around sorting and preparation of materials for recycling. • Discover what really works in developing better data analysis. • Take a more holistic approach to waste management covering behaviour (consumption, re- use, repair), raising awareness (recycling must be ‘normalised’ with the same services available everywhere to everyone) and all wastes (not just kerbside materials). • The recycling infrastructure fund is welcome, but it must be spent strategically. • Don’t keep making the same mistakes.
