Initial Teacher Education - Purpose of ITE

In many instances, ITE was the subject of social, cultural, and political debates questioning HEI involvement. In her 2020 chapter on the development of ITE in Scotland, Professor Moira Hulme quotes John Young’s (President of the Educational Institute of Scotland in 1893) view that while universities should ensure teachers are well-prepared academically, experience ‘under an experienced teacher is the best preparation’ for becoming a teacher .2Hulme, M.
