Defamation and Malicious Publication (Scotland) Bill: Stage 1 Report - Conclusions

On balance, whilst welcoming the provisions in the Bill and notwithstanding the discretion available to the courts, the Committee recommends the Scottish Government reviews the evidence we have taken and reports back to the Committee before Stage 2 with a view to making amendments to allay the legitimate concerns we heard about the important rights of individuals to pursue a case even after one year.

Bureau minute 6 August 2020

The Bureau considered a request from Johann Lamont to provide consent under Standing Orders Rule 9.14.15 for the introduction of her proposed Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions) (Scotland) Bill. The Bureau agreed to write to the Education and Skills Committee, the Equalities and Human Rights Committee and the Local Government and Communities Committee to seek information about their work programmes and to ask Johann Lamont to provide further information on her request.
