As part of your review, have you considered—apart from inquiries made through the directory—what parliamentary questions have been asked in order to assess how many of them could have been dealt with through use of the directory?
That was a recommendation of the care development group, which recognised that many current self-funders might never have been subject to a local authority assessment of need.
The section is currently suspended and it is our declared policy intention to repeal it. Many of our key stakeholders, in particular local authorities and teacher unions, raised the issue in response to the consultation on head teacher appointments.
We all share a common goal of improving services for all children, and we want every child to fulfil their potential and to be provided with every opportunity to succeed. Some—too many over the years—have slipped through the net.
