The clerks have suggested that we issue a general call for evidence now, so that people have the whole summer recess to read the bill and to make comments.
We will seek clarification from the Executive and, once we have received that, we will decide after the recess whether any member wishes to lodge a motion to annul.
However, that has proven difficult because of the recess. Our clerks, apparently quite unreasonably, regarded the recess as an opportunity to take holidays, which resulted in the committee not having its draft report.
Members indicated agreement. At the last meeting before the recess, it was agreed that we should visit Glencoe to learn more about the background to the petition before reaching a view on the action to be taken.
Our next meeting is our last before the recess and will be in Jedburgh. I am more than happy to invite the SAC to speak to us in Jedburgh, but I do not know whether that would be possible.
