Worryingly, the rate of chronic liver disease mortality in my patch—the NHS Dumfries and Galloway area—more than doubled in the decade between 2012 and 2022, increasing by 138.7 per cent from 7.13 per 100,000 to 17.02 per 100,000, and it surged by almost 40 per cent between the pre-Covid period and 2022, increasing from 12 per 100,000 to just over 17 per 100,000.
