*S6M-08298 Tess White: Aberdeen's First Indoor Padel Tennis Court—That the Parliament welcomes the news that Aberdeen’s first indoor padel tennis court will open in Bridge of Don in May 2023; understands that padel tennis is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, with more than 25 million players across 90 countries; notes that the sport combines what it believes to be some of the best elements of tennis and squash by using the same scoring and net as tennis but with smaller rackets, while also incorporating some aspects of squash such as returning off the back and side walls; further notes that the facility will open at Strikers indoor football venue on Broadfold Road, which will become one of 250 courts in Britain; recognises that padel tennis was invented by Enrique Corcuera in 1969, when he decided to adapt his squash court at his home in Mexico, and looks forward to the continued growth of the sport in north east Scotland and beyond.
