New-build schools
The Committee heard concerns regarding new-build schools and how they provided barriers to pupils with ASN.
I spoke to Scottish Enterprise, which is engaging with the companies that were not successful in securing the latest round of funding from that source in order to find ways forward.
The matrix policy will be subject to an Island Communities Impact Assessment but, essentially, without new vessels to add to the fleet it is not possible to guarantee that new options will emerge.
The purpose of the visit was to explore how the council has been responding to its housing emergency, and in particular the challenges which island and rural communities face.

The Committee therefore undertook visits to two secure accommodation centres and to YOI Polmont so that they could more fully understand the different environments and what they provide for the young people in their care.
