I know that income maximisation is a key part of the Scottish Government's framework for tackling poverty, and its new energy assistance package to tackle fuel poverty includes at stage 2 a good-quality benefits and tax credits check to ensure such maximisation.

It is also suggested that the regulations contain an error in the description of some additive substances, so an error exists, notwithstanding the approach that has been taken. The position is extraordinary. The Parliament is not new and everybody knows the rules, so I wonder whether we should report the situation to the lead committee and Parliament.

The First Minister will be aware that the Clyde marine pilots are involved in industrial action with Clydeport over a variety of issues, including safety concerns and a new contract that the pilots think is less than satisfactory.

That effort will carry on into the new year, but we have put a priority on those who are living without heating and hot water, who are over 80, who have a medical condition and whose ability to live independently could be significantly impaired if they did not have a central heating system.

Official Report Meeting date: 26 June 2007

Public Petitions Committee, 26 Jun 2007

We concluded that we would not take evidence on petitions PE1037 and PE1042 because many of the issues that they raise were addressed during consideration of the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Bill in committee and in the chamber, although I know that PE1042 calls on the committee to review the provisions of the 2005 act.I know that there are many new members of the Parliament and of the committee, but a number of members are familiar with the broad principles of the debate from their involvement in scrutinising the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Bill at its different stages, both in the Health Committee and in the chamber.
