Guidance on booking visits to the Parliament

Schools visiting the Scottish Parliament will need to register first. This is done through our ticketing partner, Citizen Ticket.

(This guidance is only for visits to the Parliament. There is a different process for online sessions and visits to your school.)

Registering

Before you can book, you need to register for a pass.

Passes are valid for the relevant academic term or year, but bookings open termly:

  • September to December
  • January to March (Easter break)
  • April to June

If you do not use all your passes in one booking period, they will carry over.

Unused passes expire at the end of June 2027.

Registering for a pass does not guarantee that you will be able to book a session.

The Citizen Ticket process

  1. Once you have selected the right kind of pass for your school, you will proceed to the checkout screen
  2. At this point, we’ll ask you for some more details about you, and your school
  3. You’ll then be emailed with a copy of your pass. The pass grants you access to a calendar, where you can select your preferred date and time for an education session. You don't have to book a session straight away - your pass is valid for the full academic year, so you can come back to the calendar later
  4. Once you’ve chosen your date and time, complete the checkout process and you’ll receive another email confirmation about your session
  5. Citizen Ticket creates a ‘Ticket Wallet’ for you – this is just a section of their website where you can view your pass and any education sessions you’ve booked
  6. To access your Ticket Wallet, you’ll need to sign in on the Citizen Ticket website. Simply add the email address you used for your registration and ask for a verification code to be emailed to you. Paste the code into the box on the sign in page and hit ‘Verify’
  7. You can amend, transfer or cancel any tickets you’ve booked from your Ticket Wallet

Passes

Your pass is valid only for visit slots that match your sector:

  • Primary schools
  • Secondary schools
  • FE / HE

Each school can have one valid registration per academic term or year. This entitles you to:

  • 3 visits per term per primary school
  • 2 visits per term per secondary or FE / HE

Duplicate bookings

Each primary and secondary school can book one pass per year.

Duplicate pass bookings will be cancelled. We will contact you about alternative engagement options.

  • Schools can book separate passes for a junior and senior school
  • Universities and colleges should specify campus and course in their pass

Session numbers

Maximum session numbers:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

- Maximum 40 people total, including

  • Pupils
