Scottish Cross-Party Group on Beer and Pubs Inquiry:
What does “Brand Scotland” mean for the
Scottish Beer and Pub Sector?
Scotland is internationally renowned for its world class food, drink and hospitality, with beer and pubs at the heart of our national brand. But what does “Brand Scotland” mean to Scottish brewing and pub businesses in terms of opportunity and growth; are there any barriers to the sector reaching its full potential and how might these be overcome?
Terms of Reference for the Inquiry:
To understand:
- The scale of investment in brewing and pubs in Scotland and the contribution of the sector to our national identity;
- The opportunities arising from businesses being recognised as an integral part of “Brand Scotland”;
- Any barriers to the sector achieving its full potential as a flagship for Scotland’s visitor economy, and to maximising its local economic and social contribution.
And to explore:
- Whether the beer and pub sectors are sufficiently recognised as an integral part of “Brand Scotland” – if not, why not?
- Any barriers to additional investment which would benefit local communities and Scotland as a whole;
- How the industry is adapting to new technology, regulation and changing consumer trends;
- The social value of the sector and the role pubs play in national and local events, bringing people together, and supporting wellbeing and social inclusion.
