That the Parliament congratulates Chris Steele, a volunteer member of the coastguard rescue team in South Uist, for being named His Majesty’s Coastguard volunteer of the year in the United Kingdom; understands that the award highlights Mr Steele’s exceptional volunteer work and community spirit, both as station officer within the coastguard as well as at Cothrom Ltd, a community and development charity, where he works; praises, in particular, Mr Steele’s tireless commitment to his duties in November 2022, when he provided daily transfers to residents of Cill Donnain during flooding, which cut off the township for a week, including for the community’s GP doctor and schoolchildren, and latterly during a three-day missing persons search the following week; further praises the efforts by Mr Steele, and other members of Scotland's emergency services, who supported and protected their communities during COVID-19 lockdowns and at vaccination clinics, and recognises his praiseworthy example as a paragon of the nation’s emergency services.
