That the Parliament commends the Save Wemyss Ancient Caves Society (SWACS) for its volunteers’ efforts in constructing a new all-weather path linking the Fife Coastal Path to the Wemyss Caves; understands that the path has been designed to make the system of caves more accessible to allow everyone, including the users of wheelchairs and mobility scooters, to visit the site; further understands that SWACS has secured funding from the walking charity, Paths for All, for the construction of the coastal path; recognises SWACS’ ongoing programme of improvements to the path, which, it understands has included the removal of graffiti and installation of information signs to further improve the safety and accessibility of the route; highlights what it sees as the significance of the Wemyss Caves, which feature historically precious carvings on their walls dating back to the Bronze Age and the Pictish Period and are widely believed to have the highest concentration of Pictish cave carvings in Britain; believes that the path improvements accompanied by SWACS’ programme of accessible guided tours will allow everyone to learn about the historical site, and wishes the volunteers continued success in protecting, preserving and promoting the heritage of the site.
