Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week

  • Submitted by: Alex Cole-Hamilton, Edinburgh Western, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 09 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01110

That the Parliament recognises the week beginning 13 September 2021 as Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week; understands that heart valve disease affects over 1.5 million people over the age of 65 in the UK; further understands that, despite the many advancements in treating the disease, many people are not diagnosed early enough to be treated; applauds the heroic efforts of the NHS in tackling the pandemic, but accepts that a fear of COVID-19 put many patients off visiting healthcare professionals; urges anyone who is experiencing breathlessness or dizziness to visit their GP, and agrees that early detection of heart valve disease will help patients get back to enjoying a good quality of life as quickly as possible.
