A Fair Deal for Glasgow Campaign

  • Submitted by: Anas Sarwar, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 24 August 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00925

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of The Herald campaign, A Fair Deal for Glasgow, which calls on the city’s arts, culture and leisure venues to be properly funded and supported; understands that Glasgow’s cultural venues, such as the Kelvingrove and the Riverside museums, run on just over £12 million of support for their 4.4 million annual visitors, while the National Museums of Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland, which attract 3.2 million and 2.4 million annual visitors, have budgets of £22.4 million and £21.2 million respectively; notes what it sees as the threat to over 80 venues in the city due to insufficient funding and the risk to over 500 jobs at these venues, and calls on the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council to come together to deliver a sustainable funding plan for Glasgow’s cultural and leisure venues, which will safeguard jobs and the attractions for future generations.
