Tribute to Neilston Pipe Major, Iain MacDonald

  • Submitted by: Tom Arthur, Renfrewshire South, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 19 May 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00056

That the Parliament welcomes the tribute to Iain MacDonald, who was described as a "pioneer of piping", spending more than 45 years as Pipe Major of the Neilston and District Pipe Band and sadly passed away in 2020; recognises the work carried out by Matt Drennan to erect a bench in honour of his friend, assisted by the Band members, Owen Finnigan and Russell and Cameron Mechan, who cleared the site and laid the foundations; notes the particular design to remember Iain with a piper in silhouette and a Saltire on either side of him; thanks those involved for their kind and thoughtful work, and hopes that this memorial bench will continue to be a place of remembrance for Iain’s contribution to the community.
