That the Parliament congratulates the first group of inductees to the newly established Orkney Sports Hall of Fame; recognises that the inductees were announced during a special online ceremony in honour of their exceptional sporting achievements and their contributions to Orkney’s impressive sporting history; pays tribute to each of the inductees for this prestigious recognition and celebration of their sporting legacy, which includes former Olympians Tom Ward, who competed as a wrestler in the 1936 Berlin Games, and Kareen Larkin, who was part of the British rowing team at the 1992 Barcelona Games; recognises that they were joined by Henry Halcro-Johnston, who won two international caps for Scotland in rugby against England and Ireland in 1877, Shona Slater, who is Orkney’s record cap holder in matches against Shetland in both hockey and netball, Ian Gibson, who has officiated for decades as a swimming referee both locally and nationally, and the five Hutchison brothers from Harray, Jackie, Freddie, Bobby, Ian and Eric, who are legends of Orkney’s footballing scene; understands that the inductees will have their names inscribed on the Orkney Sports Hall of Fame at Kirkwall Grammar School where they will inspire future generations, as well as a certificate and special plaque; thanks Orkney Islands Council’s Active Schools team and Sport Scotland for their hard work to organise the hall of fame, and looks forward in anticipation to finding out who will join the inaugural inductees in being honoured at next year’s Orkney Sports Awards ceremony.
