Orkney Finalists at the Scottish Green Energy Awards

That the Parliament congratulates James Ferguson and Elsa Ramirez, who from Orkney, and Heat Smart Orkney Ltd and Leask Marine Ltd on being nominated as finalists in the Scottish Green Energy Awards, which celebrate outstanding contributions by organisations and communities toward the success of the renewable energy sector; acknowledges that James, who is the Hydrogen Research Engineer at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Stromness and is working towards an EngD through IDCORE, and Elsa, who is Lead Project Engineer at Leask Marine, have been shortlisted for the Young and Aspiring award; recognises that both Elsa and James were automatically nominated after they won awards at the Young Professionals Green Energy Awards 2020 in recognition of their exceptional efforts to pioneer new ideas; notes that Heat Smart Orkney Ltd has been nominated for Best Community Project for its Heat Smart Orkney Project and Leask Marine Ltd has been nominated for the Best Innovation Award for its Submersible Drilling Rig; believes that this strong showing from Orkney is further testimony to the world-leading contribution that the islands continues to make toward the development of renewables; congratulates all of Orkney’s finalists on being recognised at these prestigious awards, and wishes them, and all the other finalists, the very best of luck at the virtual ceremony on 26 November.
