Orkney Distilling’s Arkh-Angell Storm Strength Gin Wins Prestigious UK Gold Medal

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 January 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-15534

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Distilling’s Arkh-Angell's Storm Strength gin on winning a prestigious UK Gold Medal at the 2019 World Gin Awards, held in London; notes that the 57% spirit took home the top prize in the Navy Gin category, which was judged by a panel of leading journalists, specialist drinks retailers and industry experts; understands that last year the gin was awarded the UK Silver Medal; notes that Arkh-Angell is distilled in Orkney, using a locally-grown variety of Norse angelica, called Archangelica, as a key ingredient; recognises that this is further evidence of Orkney’s strong and growing reputation for high-quality food and drink; welcomes news that the distillery has also just been listed by VisitScotland as one of the nine reasons people should visit Scotland in 2019, and wishes all those involved continued success in the future.
