That the Parliament congratulates and commends the organisers and volunteers of the Hebridean Celtic Festival, which took place on the island of Lewis from 18 to 21 July 2018; notes that the festival, which has run for 23 years, is a not-for-profit charitable event firmly rooted within its community and is almost entirely managed and produced by a 200-strong voluntary effort; considers that the event is a major economic and tourism driver for the Outer Hebrides, with its audience more than doubling the population of Stornoway over four days; understands that, last year, the festival generated in excess of £2.2 million and helped safeguard 40 tourism-related jobs, and it is estimated to have generated over £20 million for the local economy over two decades; believes that the festival draws more than half its audience from off-island, including from across the UK, Europe, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, with an estimated 70% of visitors being returners; understands that, as well as attracting headline acts, HebCelt is also renowned for its support and promotion of emerging local talent, the Gaelic language and culture; congratulates HebCelt on marking the Year of Young People 2018 by bringing together 20 musicians aged between 12 and 16 from all parts of the Western Isles performing traditional music and Gaelic songs, and wishes the organisers every success in coming years.
