Alva Woman Becomes First Female Chief at HM Inspectorate of Constabulary

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 28 March 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-11378

That the Parliament welcomes the news that an Alva woman has become the first female chief at HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland; acknowledges that the former police officer, Gill Imery, has been confirmed as HM's Chief Inspector and will be taking over from Derek Penman in April 2018; understands that Gill was born and brought up in Clackmannanshire and attended Dollar Academy before forging a distinguished career in the police force over 30 years; considers that she has long paved the way for women in law enforcement, having been named the first female divisional commander in Edinburgh and later the first head of public protection and divisional crime; notes that she has recently received the Queen's Police Medal; understands, and wishes her the very best of success in her new post.
