That the Parliament congratulates Lex Muir from Newton Stewart on being declared the winner at the annual Tam O’Shanter recitation competition, which took place on 19 September 2017 at The Globe Inn in Dumfries; recognises that the event, which was organised by the Dumfries Ladies Burns Club No 1, hosted seven competitors from across the UK, each of whom presented Robert Burns’ famous tale; understands that the new president of the club, Dr Ruth Thomson, welcomed each performer, who were all praised by the principal judge, David Baird, and the winner was presented the trophy by Brian Goldie, junior vice president of the Robert Burns World Federation, and wishes Lex, the Dumfries Ladies Burns Club No 1 and each of the competitors well for the future.
