Celebrating 40 Years of Radio Orkney

That the Parliament congratulates BBC Radio Orkney on celebrating its 40th anniversary; notes that the station made its first broadcast in May 1977 with Howie Firth at the helm, ably supported by Liz Davis; acknowledges the contributions over the years of the station’s presenters, including John Fergusson, Kath Gourlay and Brian Flett; recognises the popularity of the service that the station provides, from Around Orkney in the morning, which features local news, weather, travel, sport, daily diary, job opportunities and mart reports, to the evening programme and weekly items, Postbag and Friday Requests; believes that BBC Radio Orkney continues to play an invaluable role in community and island life; recognises the ongoing efforts of the current team, including Dave Gray, Robbie Fraser, Helen Foulis, David Delday and Huw Williams, and wishes everyone connected with Radio Orkney all the best for the next 40 years and beyond.
