Official Opening of the Rothes Way

  • Submitted by: Laura Mitchell, Moray, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 24 September 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-01340

That the Parliament congratulates everyone involved in the official opening of the Rothes Way, which took place on 20 September 2026; understands that the Rothes Way is a community-led, multi-use path linking Rothes and Craigellachie, providing a safe and scenic walking and cycling route that avoids the busy main road and connects with the established Speyside Way; notes that the path largely follows the route of the former Morayshire railway and has been developed through the hard work of the Rothes Way Association; celebrates the inclusion of the Rothes Way in the Rothes Rambles leaflet, which showcases the creativity of pupils from Rothes Primary School, with support from Norma D Hunter, the 2023-24 Arts in Moray Artist in Residence for the Moray Way; welcomes the community celebrations marking the opening, including ribbon-cutting ceremonies at Craigellachie Play Park and Anvil Gardens, followed by a treasure hunt and a walk to the Haughs for burgers and refreshments; sends its best wishes to everyone who has played a part in establishing the Rothes Way, and hopes that the path will be enjoyed by locals and visitors for many years to come.
