That the Parliament recognises National Suicide Prevention Week, which runs from 6 to 12 September 2026 and includes World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September, as an important opportunity to raise awareness of suicide prevention, challenge stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health and wellbeing; acknowledges that suicide has a devastating impact on individuals, families, friends and communities across Scotland; commends the work of United to Prevent Suicide, Scotland’s social movement for suicide prevention, which brings together people from all walks of life with a shared belief that everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide; notes its efforts to promote compassion, connection and hope, encourage greater public understanding of suicide and empower people to have potentially life-saving conversations; welcomes the contribution of volunteers, campaigners, organisations and those with lived and living experience who continue to drive this work forward; supports the aims of Scotland’s suicide prevention strategy, Creating Hope Together, and encourages people across Scotland to engage with suicide prevention initiatives, learn more about how to support those who may be struggling and help create communities where anyone affected by suicidal thoughts feels able to seek support without fear of stigma or judgement.
