That the Parliament welcomes International Day for Universal Access to Information on 28 September 2026; regards it as an opportunity to highlight the importance of the public enforcing its right to access information to form an opinion about how public services and democratically elected government perform; notes that this year’s theme is Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The role of access to Information in addressing Information Disorder; believes that it is time to ensure the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 is updated and strengthened to keep pace with changes in information management; further believes that the improved digitalisation of public sector information over the last 25 years both offers opportunities for improvements in the efficient disclosure of information and warrants further attention in adapting to changes in how publicly funded services are delivered, and commits itself to promoting the highest standards of transparency, accountability and scrutiny in its service to the people of Scotland.
