Burghead War Memorial Rededication Ceremony

That the Parliament recognises the rededication ceremony held at the Grant Street War Memorial in Burghead on 23 August 2026; understands that the ceremony, which was hosted and organised by Burghead and Cummingston Community Council, commemorated members of the Burghead Church congregation who left to serve their country, including those who never returned home; notes that the ceremony featured the ringing of the church bells, the unveiling of memorials by pupils from Burghead Primary School, the laying of wreaths and posies, the sounding of The Last Post, community singing, and the RAF Lossiemouth Pipe Band; recognises the importance of involving younger generations in preserving the memory of those who served, as well as ensuring that the sacrifices they made and the lessons of their service continue to be remembered; welcomes the attendance of families of everyone commemorated, serving personnel, veterans, dignitaries and members of the wider Moray community; commends Burghead and Cummingston Community Council, the residents who volunteered as stewards and traffic managers, the Burghead Community Hall Committee for arranging refreshments following the ceremony, and all who contributed to organising and supporting this meaningful community occasion; believes that the ceremony demonstrated the strength of Burghead’s community spirit, and reaffirms the promise that the service and sacrifice of the people commemorated will never be forgotten.
