Celebrating the Life of Ian Norval, Distiller of Kirkcaldy's Own Whisky

That the Parliament celebrates the life of Ian Norval, the latest generation of the Norval family, which created a unique Scotch whisky in 1857, and who sadly passed away on 22 August 2026 at the age of 81; understands that the Norval family introduced its "Sensible" Scotch Whisky to Kirkcaldy, with its name reflecting appreciation through the five senses, with the sight of its amber colour suggesting the fields of golden grain from which it originated, its aroma evident when experienced in the glass, its taste evoking pure Scotland and the whisky's Lowland home, its quality appreciated upon touching the tongue, and its message remembered when heard; notes the history continued by Ian from his great-grandfather, who operated an illicit still within the Chapel Tavern and used water from the Chapel Burn to produce the then illegal blend, which was enjoyed for many years by local people who believed its unique taste came from the local water source; expresses its condolences to the Norval family on the loss of a man associated with such a rich heritage, and believes that Kirkcaldy will remember Ian as the man who continued the legacy of his ancestors and as someone greatly admired by the community.
