Police Custody Suite Closures

  • Submitted by: Amanda Bland, Central Scot and Lothians West, Reform UK

  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-00845

That the Parliament notes with concern the closure and reduction of police custody suites across Scotland; recognises the reported impact that this has on frontline policing, with officers required to spend increasing amounts of time transporting detainees to more distant facilities; believes that reduced custody capacity places additional pressure on remaining suites, contributes to delays, reduces officer availability and increases risks to officer safety, and calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that Police Scotland has the resources necessary to provide sufficient and geographically accessible custody capacity across Scotland.
