  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-00498

That the Parliament congratulates all the athletes, officials, volunteers and supporters involved in the 76th North Isles Sports event, which took place in Stronsay on 20 June 2026; believes that it was another highly successful day of inter-isle sporting competition; understands that this annual event sees athletes from Eday, North Ronaldsay, Papay, Sanday, Stronsay and Westray compete in a number of sporting categories, including netball, football, long jump, high jump, shot put and tug o' war; recognises that Westray retained its spot as top team of the day, taking home the coveted Millenium Cup, as well as the Schools Cup and the adults' trophy, the Challenge Cup, but that each team put on a great performance and contributed to the success of the event; considers that there were several standout moments at the competition, including Westray's Lizzie Harcus breaking a 39-year record with her 4.59 metre long jump, siblings Martha and Wilbur Bremner of Stronsay both winning their respective shot put categories, and team Stronsay defending their tug o' war title, which they have held since 2017, after an exhilarating final against Sanday; recognises the important role of local sporting events, like the North Isles Sports, in bringing communities together and fostering lifelong friendships through friendly sporting rivalry; thanks all of those involved in facilitating another highly memorable weekend of sporting competition in the north isles, and wishes the North Isles Sports every success for the future.
