That the Parliament celebrates the return of the original World Cup trophy to Renton, as part of local celebrations marking the historic achievements of Renton Football Club; notes that, almost 140 years ago, Renton FC became the first club to hold the title of Champions of the World following a 4–1 victory over West Bromwich Albion FC in May 1888; understands that the match, organised between the holders of the Scottish Cup and the English FA Cup, took place at Cathkin Park to determine the Champions of the World; acknowledges the significance of this achievement in Scotland’s sporting heritage and the pride that it continues to inspire within the community of Renton; welcomes the existing “Champions of the World” banner displayed in the town in recognition of this historic success; further welcomes the exhibition of the original trophy, alongside photographs of the victorious team, at the heritage centre within Alexandria Library from 19 June to 2 July 2026; commends all those involved in organising the celebrations, preserving the area’s sporting history and ensuring that future generations can learn about this remarkable achievement, and recognises the enduring contribution that Renton FC has made to Scottish football.
